Atonement was first published in 2001, written by author Ian McEwan. That same year the book won several awards including the 2001 Booker Prize for fiction. The novel is about a young girl's half-innocent mistake that ruins the lives of her sister and her sister's lover, and her adulthood in its shadow, which leads her into a reflection on the nature of writing.
